The play "Contractions" of Mike Bartlett premiered at Alkmini Theatre

The play “Contractions” of the award-winning and internationally acclaimed British playwright Mike Bartlett, premiered on October 14, 2015, at Alkmini Theatre, Athens. It’s a production in direction of Pemi Zouni, with Aggeliki Pardalidou and Anastasia Charitidou on the two leading roles.

Mike Bartlett, one of the most talented authors of his generation and leading figure in the contemporary British Theatre, beloved to the European theatre audience, wrote “Contractions” when he was 28 years old, wondering “What kind of society are we labouring away to give birth to?”… “Contractions”, an adaptation of the radio comedy drama “Love Contract” (BBC 4, 2007), narrates with brutal directness the process of the absolute crushing of humanity. The theatrical adaptation was premiered at Royal Court Theatre, in 2008-2009. Bartlett has been awarded three times with Laurence Olivier Award, the Old Vic New Voices award and the Writer's Guild Tinniswood and Imison. Ηis work as a whole has won a nomination for Bafta (British Academy Film and Television Awards). Moreover, his works are presented at the National and Royal Theatre of England, as well as they are translated and performed all over the world.

Synopsis:

In the near future, a female manager and her new, promising employee, Emma, work together for an international company. The environment is quiet and friendly. There is a demand for “security”, but also for “justice” with the communication rules forcing kindness and precision, often with humor. In the very near future (or is it already the present?), the meaning of some words changes slightly and lead to the nightmare. Terms such as Right, Freedom and Choice.

The Artbassador has granted the licence for the stage production of the play at Alkmini Theatre to Mangola Productions on behalf of The Agency.
