CALIGULA by Albert Camus

03 February 2017- 23 April 2017 At the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall

“Caligula” - the Nobel Prize-winning play – by Albert Camus, premiered on February 3rd, with Yiannis Stankoglou as Caligula at the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, under the direction of Aliki Danezis Knutsen, in translation by Françoise Arvanitis and original live music on stage by Blaine Reininger of the group Tuxedomoon.

Aliki Danezis Knutsen, after the theatrical successes of "Festen" and "The Lives of Others", directed a large cast of 13 actors into one of the most important theatrical works of the 20th century, illustrating on stage the dramatic course of Caligula to death, as an act of "self-sacrifice" and not insanity.

The Roman Emperor Caligula is driven to paranoia after the loss of his sister and his mistress Droussila and embodies with absolute conscience, the absurdity of the existence and the unfeasible of happiness. Caligula is the story of a "superior" suicide.
