World Premiere of Theo Loevendie’s opera THE RISE OF SPINOZA
OCTOBER 2014 - AMSTERDAM
Τheo Loevendie, Dutch composer and Jazz musician, was commissioned with the composition of a new opera entitled THE RISE OF SPINOZA, about the seventeenth-century philosopher Baruch de Spinoza. The opera’s theme covers the events of the summer of 1655, when the young Spinoza was expelled from the Jewish community of Amsterdam. The composer also wrote the libretto.
The world premiere took place at Het Concertgebouw Great Hall in Amsterdam, on October 11th 2014. The Amsterdam Radio Philharmonic Orchestra was conducted by Markus Stenz.
