Thessaloniki State Orchestra Concert

On Friday, February 5th, the Thessaloniki State Orchestra presented at the Ceremonies Hallof the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a singular program comprising masterpieces of three brilliant composers, that excelled in their early youth by presenting pioneering work on the verge of the transition from the late romantic era to the avant-guard compositions of the beginning of the 20th century. As a result, they epitomized in their idiom the main characteristics of a grand musical era that was reaching its inevitable conclusion and concurrently incorporated elements of contemporary musical styles that were emerging triumphally.

The Orchestra performed CONCERTO IN D MAJOR FOR VIOLIN AND ORCHESTRA OP. 35 by Erich Korngold.

Korngold became famous in Hollywood, as the first composer to be honored with the accolade of an Academy Award for a film score. He is considered as the one that set up the rules for filmic music composition holding even in our days. They dynamic Concert for violin is the first symphonic work that he completed after the end of WW2 manifesting once more his worth as a first class composer. The virtuoso violist of SOMT, Antonis Sousamoglou braved one of the most demanding concerts for violin in the contemporary repertoire, transmitting all the positive energy of the work and offering an explosive execution.
